Ham Apple Cheddar Casserole
My ham apple cheddar casserole is just as good as it sounds. Just as a slice of cheddar cheese complements a piece of apple pie, this apple, cheese, and ham combination flows together seamlessly.
PREP: 20 minutes
BAKE: 35 minutes
OVEN: 350°F
MAKES: 6 servings
INGREDIENTS
3 cups frozen loose-pack diced hash brown potatoes, thawed
1 large red apple, cored and chopped
1 teaspoon dried sage, crushed
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup diced cooked ham (5 ounces)
1½ cups milk
4 eggs
¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
¼ teaspoon salt
PREPARATION
1. Press thawed potatoes between paper towels to remove moisture; set aside. In a small saucepan cook apple and sage in hot butter over medium heat until tender. Remove from heat. Combine apple mixture, potatoes, and ham in a lightly greased 2-quart square baking dish.
2. In a medium bowl whisk together milk, eggs, cheese, and salt. Pour egg mixture over potato mixture in dish. (Do not stir.) Bake, uncovered, in a 350°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
